Esther An is the Chief Sustainability Officer at CDL, the Singapore-based property company (City Developments Limited). Esther joined CDL in 1995, and has been leading the CDL’s sustainability approach, a very well-ranked company on the 2020 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. It is also the sole CDP A-List company for climate strategy and water security in Southeast Asia.
With Esther in lead, CDL has achieved much; being the first Singapore-listed company to publish a GRI-checked Sustainability Report in 2008; issuing the first green bond by a Singapore company in 2018 and the first Singapore real estate firm to achieve SBTi validated carbon intensity reduction target in 2018.
She is a pioneer CSR practitioner for over two decades and is known as a thought leader in sustainability. Esther stands out for her commitment to drive change. She is a board member of several international and industry organizations such as the World Green Building Corporate Advisory Board, Singapore Green Building Council Board, Global Compact Network Singapore Management Committee. She chairs the ULI Singapore Sustainability Product Council and APREA Sustainability Committee to accelerate sustainability in the regional real estate sector. Esther is the founder of Women4Green and Youth4Climate initiatives which has helped nurture more than 1,000 young leaders. She has a strong belief in empowering women and youths as a force for change towards a sustainable future for all.
Esther is a forerunner in embracing the UN SDGS. Esther was conferred 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact in 2008, as well as a signatory of the UN Caring for Climate initiative.
Esther is based in Singapore and has a degree from the University of Hong Kong.
